Ray Jensen Bio

I was born in Long Island, New York on Nov. 28,1946.1 graduated from North Shore High School in June of 65' and I worked a part-time job in grocery store. The Navy beckoned as it was stated in my yearbook.

I joined the Navy in Oct. 1965. I was sent to Basic in Great Lakes, Illinois for training. I was 18 years old and thought I knew everything. I soon learned who was in charge. I thought Basic in the Great Lakes was the coldest place in the world. Little did I knows a couple years later I would find out it was colder in the waters of North Korea (during the Pueblo seizure). I was assigned to the Boiler Room on The USS Dewey (DLG -14) where I spent my whole enlistment. I was in Viet Nam 68' after my tour of duty there we went home. I joined the Navy to see the world and I sure did, and a whole lot more.

I met my wife Jeanne on a blind date when I was on leave in 69'. That was the end of my Naval career. After a couple months dating, I was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea as exciting as that was all I could think about was her. I received an early-out 30 days (reduction in authorized strength) of which I spent two weeks of it at sea going around a hurricane. My ETS was Oct. 69'. I got married on May 17, 1970. I joined the US Post Office; I was saved in 1977. 1 have been serving Him since. I retired after 25 years of service. We moved to South Carolina in 92' I worked for Anderson School district V for 23 years. We have three children. I'm very blessed with 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren so far. I was approached by several members of the VHVA. I was so moved by how friendly they were! My wife suggested that I go to VHVA for fellowship, I'm glad I did! We need each other.
